An intercultural blended professional development course targeting European elementary and middle school (ages 9-15) teachers, that will promote teaching to read as a transversal skill for all educators regardless of discipline. 

Overall Course Aim: Develop teachers’ knowledge & skills in teaching and learning using the Living Book approach through exposure to innovative learning methodologies and resources, and cross-cultural exchange of experiences and ideas

Enable teachers, regardless of discipline, to:

  • Exploit the LIVING BOOK methodology to foster students’ motivation towards reading and to improve their reading skills.
  • Exploit the LIVING BOOK methodology to help strengthen the development of a cluster of key and transversal competencies: digital skills, learning to learn, critical thinking, cooperative and collaborative skills, etc.
  • Use strategies for increasing the level of participation and achievement of the most unmotivated learners from disadvantaged households.
  • Functionally integrate various types of AR tools and resources provided by the Living Library platform with existing core curricular ideas.
  • Develop a long-lasting transnational community of “Augmented Teachers”, who advise and support each other about classroom practices and pedagogy relating to Augmented Reading.

An intercultural blended professional development course targeting European upper elementary and middle school (ages 9-15) teachers, but also adult educators and other professionals involved in parent training.

Overall Course Aim: Equip parent educators with the required knowledge, skills, and resources to provide professional guidance to parents of elementary and middle school students (ages 9-15) in how to best support children’s development in reading through the adoption of the Living Book approach.

Parent educators trained through the programme will gain expertise in how plan, design, and facilitate an effective parent training course on the Living Book approach. They will:

  • Develop effective strategies for parent training by getting acquainted with the main principles of adult learning, and of parent education.
  • Gain better understanding of informal education and inquiry, and of ways to encourage family-based informal pro-reading practices.
  • Get familiarized with innovative methodologies, tools and technologies that parents can employ at home to facilitate their children’s reading habits and learning.
  • Get familiarized with the rationale and content of the parent-training pack prepared by the consortium, and with ways to facilitate its use during the parent-training course.
  • Develop strategies for promoting parental engagement and learning, and particularly for increasing the involvement of “hard to reach families”.
  • Learn how to convey complicated ideas in a simple language that all families can understand.
  • Learn how to effectively communicate with parents coming from different cultural and/or socio-economic backgrounds.

Parents attending courses offered by the parent educators trained through the programme will:

  • Increase their awareness of the value and importance of literacy for their children’s future.
  • Better appreciate how literacy is connected to everyday experiences, and learn how to help their children make the connection.
  • Gain a better understanding of informal learning and inquiry
  • Become more skilled and confident in nurturing their child's (and their own) learning and growth in reading.
  • Learn how to foster their children’s motivation towards reading.
  • Get familiarized with a variety of innovative methodologies, tools, and technologies they can employ at home to support children’s reading habits.
  • Learn more about educational programmes and how the school works.
  • Become better equipped to support and monitor children’s learning at school.

Short Teachers Training Course on specific AR tools within the Living Book framework. This course material consist part of a wider training on the Living Book Methodological Guidelines. 

Learning Objectives:

- Understand the meaning of enhanced reading 

- Understand the meaning of augmented reality 

- Acquire skills on using ZapWorks 

- Acquire skills on using Aurasma

An intercultural blended professional development course targeting lower and upper secondary education teachers (with students aged between 12 and 18), that will promote teaching STEM applying interdisciplinary approaches and integrating innovative technologies, such as Augmented and Mixed Reality.

Overall Course Aim: Develop teachers’ knowledge & skills in teaching and learning using the EL-STEM approach through exposure to innovative learning methodologies and resources, and cross-cultural exchange of experiences and ideas.

The expected impact of this course is to:

  • Provide high-quality professional development opportunities to secondary education teachers that will enable them to acquire knowledge and skills on how to effectively embed AR/MR methodologies and technologies into teaching & learning.
  • Support teachers on getting familiarized with ways in which the Enlivened Laboratories approach could be implemented under the view of the inquiry-based approach with respect to diversity.
  • Motivate teachers on using innovative tools to attract students’ interest in choosing STEM-related studies & careers and improving their performance in courses related to STEM education.
  • Create and strengthen an online community of “AR STEM teachers” promoting the use of AR/MR technologies within STEM-related courses in lower and upper secondary education.
  • Set the basis for the creation of a widely accepted teachers’ training curriculum in Europe on using AR/MR technologies not only in the discipline of STEM but also humanities, literature, language learning etc.
